The American Magazine,
New York City.
Dear Editor:-
In reference to your articles on ''Scientific Management"
I cannot understand how in this year 1911 when Socialism is making such great headway in this country, is being discussed in all the leading Magazines, and are electing representatives from Congressmen to Councilmen all over the country. When President Taft is frightened into pardoning a Socialist editor who did not look for same. and The Appeal to Reason is getting its 500,000 weekly circulation. how in the face of this you can publish such stuff as "Scientific Management" and get away with it is a mystery to me.
Scientific Management may stand for progrees of production at the expense of the workers, which is bound to have its reaction as is now experienced such as Child Labor, Unemployment, A Large criminal population, Paupers and ect, which is all the result of Scientific production with the means of production owned by a small idle class.
More scientific management is bound to mean an increase of all our present evils unless we can have them under Socialism.
your readers may enjoy such stuff now but in time they will drop your Magazine the same as they are dropping old party politics.
The best article in this months issue is also the smallest,
SUCCESSORS by Ruth Kaufmann. Of course I am a Socialist, I am also an employer of labor and a landlord with a dozen tennants. But Justice is Justice no mattar who advocates it or who opposes it. and to retard Socialism is like tring to stop the tides.
Yours truly,
Otto Becker
