Dear Mr. Phillips: I have been very much interested in your Efficiency articles. There has been a little feeling on my part, that I should take the opportunity to joke you the next time I saw you, about one phase
namely, that to engineers (including engineering publishers) this is now a pretty old story. A parallel case would be a series of enthusiastic articles on the new method of building by steel framed structures with stone sheathing on the outside. However, this is not the purpose of my letter. In Mr. Baker's article on the various pioneers in this field, he leaves out one man who is a very good friend of mine
namely, Hugo Diemer, Professor of Industrial Engineering, at Pennsylvania State College. Prof. Diemer antedates most of the men you have named in your article. His work has been very effective. He has had a practical experience as a department head and organizer, and is giving a splendid course on the subject of Industrial Engineering, at State College. The fact that we have recently published a very successful book by him, on the subject of Factory
