New York, August 13, 1909. Mr. F. W. Taylor,
Highland Station,
Chestnut Hill, Philadelphia, Pa. My dear Mr. Taylor:
I write you in regard to the Morton Memorial Building Fund, which we are very desirous of using our best endeavors to complete, and that as speedily as possible. There is about $26,000. in all to be raised; and if the amount of money or pledges to that amount are taken in hand this Fall, preferably before the first of next month, there is a fair probability that we will be able to receive a very substantial sum from the Rockefeller and Sage foundations, - a sum in the neighborhood of a million and a quarter. Dr. Humphreys at present is in Europe, and it is the endeavor of the entire Executive Committee of the Alumni to raise this amount of money by pledges or cash in hand before his return in September. I see that you have given nothing. Don't you think you could give $500? It is going to help everybody a lot if this entire sum is raised, and I want particularly to appeal to you in this matter as one who has done things in the past for the institute, and whose generosity should not be stopped at the present time.
Hoping for a favorable response, I remain, Very truly yours, Henry Samuel Morton
